CREATE & Gadsden State Partnership

Gadsden State is offering CREATE students the opportunity to complete short term certificates in the fields of Construction Technology, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology, Welding, and Electrical Technology! Students can take these courses for FREE when taking advantage of the scholarship and reimbursement opportunities.  Short term certificates can be completed in as little as 2 semesters, allowing students to be career-focused and to earn higher wages.

Program Details:

  • Construction Tech -
    • 2 short term certificate pathways (Basic and Advanced)
    • Both pathways are 26 credit hour programs
    • Covers the basics of flooring, wall, and site prep, concrete and flooring, roofing and ceiling systems, and more!
    • Courses are offered only in Gadsden at the Valley Street Campus.
    • Admission Requirement: The student must be 17 or older.
       
  • Air Conditioning and Refrigeration –
    • 29 credit hour program – short term cert. page
    • Courses taken at Ayers Campus location in Anniston
    • Learn about the piping and electrical principles in HVACR
    • Admission Requirement: High school diploma or GED.
       
  • Welding -
    • 2 short term certificate pathways (basic and pipe tube)
    • Courses taken at Ayers Campus location in Anniston
    • Both pathways are 29 credit hour program
    • Courses in SMAW, Gas Metal Arc, Flux Core, and more
    • Admission Requirement: The student must be 17 or older.
       
  • Electrical –
    • 26 credit hour program – short term cert. page
    • Courses taken at Ayers Campus location in Anniston
    • Students can choose from 3 routes:
      • Residential Electrical Apprentice
      • Industrial Electrical Technician
      • Industrial Control Technician
    • Admission Requirement: High school diploma or GED.

Scholarship Opportunities:

  • Short-Term Credential Scholarship Program Grant - Eligible students will receive reimbursement up to $4,500 toward qualifying educational expenses associated with the short-term credential program
  • Buy One, Get One Opportunities - for employees of members of the Calhoun Chamber of Commerce, buy one course and get one free!
  • Gadsden State Start Strong Scholarship - $2,000 scholarship for full time students
  • Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA) Grant - a federal program that provides grants to help people find jobs and improve their skills. Amount allotted varies per individual.
  • Alabama Homebuilders Foundation Scholarship – residents of Alabama can apply for a $1000 scholarship if they enrolled in construction related fields like construction technology, electrical technology, and HVAC.
  • Other Gadsden State Scholarships - Students may be able to obtain assistance in the form of scholarships granted based on academic or technical achievements, participation in extracurricular and leadership activities and exhibited talents of the fine arts or athletics.
